Lewis J. Leadbetter, 84, formerly of Steele, Mo., died Sunday, November 13, 1994, at Pemiscot Memorial Nursing Facility in Hayti, Mo.
Mr. Leadbetter was born September 8, 1910 at Darcy, Miss.
A veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II, he was a retired farmer.
Mr. Leadbetter leaves three daughters: Mrs. Sharon VanDyke and Mrs. Mildred Wiseman, both of Steele, and Mrs. Marie Hill of Caruthersville, Mo.; A stepson, L.C. Prestige, of Hatley, Miss.; Twenty grandchldren; Forty-one great-grandchildren; and Six great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Leadbetter were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 1994, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Rev. Charles Faught officiating. John W. German Funeral Home of Steele was in charge.

Mrs. Clytee Ledbetter, a 53-year old Steele resident, died en route to a Memphis hospital Friday night, May 5, 1972, from injuries received in a two-car crash seven miles west of Steele.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reported Mrs. Ledbetter received the fatal injuries when her daughter, Sharon Samford, 18, Steele, driving a 1970 Ford, ran into the rear of a 1965 Chevrolet truck which had backed from a private driveway into her path. The truck was driven by William Martin, 69, of Steele.
Sustaining minor injuries were Sharon, her husband frank Samford, 18, Martin's wife Ruby, and another passenger in the Martin vehicle, Shaw Still, age two.
The accident occurred on Route C, one and a half miles south of Route 164. The vehicles were travelling south.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ledbetter were held Sunday, May 7, at 3:00 p.m. at the John W. German Funeral Home in Steele with the Rev. A.R. Srum of Cardwell officiating.
The daughter of Mrs. Effie Forbus and the late Horne Forbus, Mrs. Ledbetter was born June 22, 1919 at Guntown, Miss. She was united in marriage to Lewis J. Ledbetter in Caruthersville.
A son, Billy Wayne, preceded her in death July 12, 1969.
She leaves her husband, Lewis J. Ledbetter, of Steele; one son, L.C. Prestage of Okolona, Miss.; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Vaughn of Caruthersville and Mrs. Sharon Samford of Steele; two step-daughters: Mrs. Mildred Barham and Mrs. Marie Hill, both of Steele; her mother, Mrs. Effie Forbus of Steele; four sisters: Mrs. Portis Beene, Osceola, Ark.; Mrs. J.H. Armstrong, Atoka, Tenn.; Mrs. Sam Viar, Gary, Ind.; and Mrs. Hugh Green, Steele; and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy Glidewell, Billy Gray, Seabe Wright, Cotton Cox, Eldridge gray and Wayne Britt.
Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery at Steele with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
