James (Wes) Wesley Blakey, 86, Springfield, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Christian Health Care West. Wes was born on April 10, 1918, to the late John Henry and Mary (Smith) Blakey in northern Arkansas.
He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. Wes was united in marriage to the late Virginia Mae (Perkins) on Oct. 28, 1945, in Kansas.
He kept busy after retiring by fixing appliances around the house such as washing machines and dryers. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting squirrels. Wes enjoyed preaching and reading the Bible and was a member of the Bible Way Association. He loved to laugh and treasured the company of his family. He was a wonderful man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include children Donald Blakey of Conway, Ronald Blakey, Judy Long, James Blakey and John Blakey, all of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaug h t e r . He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia, his parents and 13 siblings.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Rivermonte Chapel with burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Wes's name to the Disabled Veterans Fund, 1708 St. Louis, Springfield, MO 65802.
