Mrs. Viola M. Northway passed away on Monday, Sept. 3, while at Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs. Born on Jan. 2, 1917, in Trask, Mo., to Monroe Franklin and Flora Alice (Edwards) Lovan, she was 95 years old. Viola was raised in Willow Springs where she graduated from high school with the class of ‘35. On Nov. 8, 1936, Viola married Harold Northway in Willow Springs and to this union, one child was born. She was a life long resident of Willow Springs and a ninety-five year member of the First Baptist Church of Willow Springs. Viola worked for over 32 years as the church secretary, she volunteered for many years at Willow Care Nursing Home, and for the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was a devout Christian who enjoyed helping others and always had a smile on her face. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Northway was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold Northway; her son Donald Harold Northway; her brothers Egbert, Elvin, and Carl; and her sister Pauline Luttrell. Viola is survived by her daughter in law Wanda Northway of Columbia; her granddaughter, Michelle Ankenman and her husband Todd of Columbia; and her great grandchildren Katelyn and Christopher. The funeral service was Saturday, September 8, at the First Baptist Church of Willow Springs. Burial followed Saturday's service in the Willow Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home in Willow Springs. [Howell County News 9/24/2012]
