Joe C. Christian, 79 resident of Steele for many years, died at Pemiscot County Hospital, Monday, August 16, and funeral services were held at the Steele Methodist Church with the Rev. Marvin Niblack officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with German Funeral Home.
Mr. Christian called by his friends "Uncle Joe" was born in Clifton, Tenn. on September 12, 1885. On December 18, 1917 in Philadelphia, Miss. he was married to Miss Frances Miller and the family moved to Missouri in 1924. He farmed until he retired in 1954.
He was a member of the Steele Methodist Church, also was interested in work of the Micola Church.
Survivors of the home; include his wife, four sons, Joe C. Jr. of Steele, John of Flint, Mich., James of Santa Rose, Calif. and Jerry of Hattiesburg, Miss.; Mrs. Margaret Norris of Jonesboro, Ga., Mrs. Geraldine Hitchens and Mrs. Mabel Catt of Steele, Aubyron Thomas of Pollock Pines, Calif., Mrs. Virginia Deskin of Gladstone, Ore. and Mrs. Trecie Bennett of New Orleans, a sister Mrs. Janie Goodrum of Hayti; 46 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Frances Georgia Christian, 93, of Carthage, Miss. formerly of this area, died February 21, 1989 at Leake Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Born May 13, 1895 in Edinburg, Miss., she was the daughter of Thomas and Tracia Mooney Miller. She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Carthage. She was a housewife and the widow of Joe C. Christian.
She is survived by 3 sons, Joe Christian Jr. of Pascagoula, Miss., John Christian of Bloomsburg, Pa., and Jerry Christian of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; 7 daughters, Mrs. Margaret Norris of Carthage, Mrs. Christina McBird of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Geraldine Hitchins of Steele Mo., Mrs. Aubyron Thomas of Atlanta, Mrs. Virginia Rayburn of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Mrs. Mable Catt of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Trecia Bennett of Pearl River, La.; 2 brothers, Hugh Miller of Edinburg and Niles Miller of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; 45 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by 1 son, James Christian.
Services were February 22 at 9 am at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Carthage, the Rev. Lamar Jolly officiating, with Wilcox Funeral Home of Carthage in charge.
Graveside services were February 22 at 4:30 pm at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mason Harris officiating, German-Aumon Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
