George Washington Wicker, well-known resident of Steele, died at Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff March 12, 1961. He had been ill for some time.

Mr. Wicker was born in Blytheville, Ark., on November 16, 1894. He was 66 years, 3 months and 26 days of age.

He was united in marriage to Bertha Mae Davis at Blytheville on January 1, 1928. Steele had been his home most of his life.

Funeral services were held at the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Steele at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15. Rev. Ray Benefield of Caruthersville conducted services. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery with John W. German Mount Zion Chapel in charge.

Active pallbearers were Harvel Davis, Vernon Crews, Johnny Goodrich, Hall Wynn, Bill Stanfield, and Mansel Lindsey.

Honorary pallbearers were Riley Knight, Bell Burden, Wade Hollenbeck, Wallace Flood and Frank J. Huffman.

Mr. Wicker's survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bertha Wicker of Steele; two sons, George R. Wicker of Blytheville Air Force Base and Johnnie F. Wicker of Hudson, North Carolina; one step-son, Warner Roberts of Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Williamson of Snow Lake, Ark., a step-daughter, Mrs. Cathryn James of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, R.E. Wicker of Steele; and 13 grandchildren.

Bertha Mae Davis Roberts Wicker, 92, of Elaine, Ark., died Saturday, January 30, 1999 at her home.
Born September 23, 1906 in Dyersburg, Tenn., she was a homemaker and a member of Cypert church of Christ.
Bertha was united in marriage to George "Bud" Wicker who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Warner Roberts, Robert Wicker and Larry Wayne Wicker.
Mrs. Wicker was a native of Steele, Mo., having moved from here in 1979.
She leaves two daughters, Kathery Roberts James of Kansas City, Mo., and Alice Wicker Williamson of Elaine; One son, Johnnie Wicker, Granite Falls, N.C.; Twenty grandchildren; Twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and Numberous great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wicker were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 1999 at the Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel in West Helena, Ark. with Rev. Wally Scaife, and Rev. Mark Spener officiating.
Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Rev. Ray Holloway officiating. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Helena was in charge.
Pallbearers were Darell Dunkerson, Harold Williamson, Ray Halloway, Jessie Gosney, Barry Williamson and Bud Gosney.
Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Nowell, Charles Taylor, Frank Williamson, Tommy Enebit, Kenneth Parker and John Williamson.
