Son of James & Essie (Kelly) Oaks
Roberta J. Oaks of Branson, MO, formerly of Willow Springs, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 15, 2017 while at her home due to natural causes. Born on February 27, 1932 to Robert Clifton and Iris (Green) Rackley in Willow Springs, she was 85 years old.
Roberta grew up a few miles outside of Willow Springs and attended the local schools here, graduating from Willow Springs High School, class of 1950. She met her future husband while babysitting across the street from the filling station where Lester "Buck" Oaks was working. They fell in love and were married in Willow Springs on December 24, 1951, and to this union two children were born. Lester was drafted into the US Army and spent two tours of duty in Korea. While he was gone, Roberta and a girlfriend went to Wichita, KS to obtain employment. After his return, he then went to see Roberta and they returned to Willow Springs to make their home. Roberta worked side by side with Lester as he operated his concession business. She also spent her time at home raising and caring for their children, Debbie and Randy. She later had the joy of caring for her grandson, Willie Buck Lyons, who also graduated from WSHS. She and Lester resided in Wichita for many years until his passing in 1992. Roberta had many interests in life which included gardening, playing bingo and taking care of her dog, "Bootsie." However, her favorite times revolved around her family and her home. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one grandchild, Alana Richmond. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert and John Rackley.
She is survived by her children, Randy Oaks and Debbie Lazier and her husband, Greg, all of Branson, MO; two grandsons, and Willie Buck Lyons of Springfield, MO; and Shawn Kendall Oaks of Wichita, KS. Further surviving is a great granddaughter, Harper Lyons as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by three sisters; Aleene Reed, Mary Ann Baker, and Charlene Bunch.
A graveside service will be held for Roberta on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Willow Springs City Cemetery with Pastor Joel Hinds officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home. On-line condolences may be left at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com
