Henry C. Clem of the Illinois Bend community, died suddenly at his home last night about 6:00 just as he started to eat his evening meal. He had been in his usual health and his death came as a shock to his family and friends. He died at his home where he had lived for the past fifty eight years. A daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Attebery, live with him.
Henry Clay Clem was born December 2, 1853 in the Illinois Bend community, a son of Daniel and Sarah Clem. He was the last of a family of seven children.
He was united in marriage to Miss Rosanna Shoemaker November 14, 1875 and to this union were born seven children, two of whom have preceded him in death, one infant daughter, Dora May and Maude who died sixteen years ago. Mrs. Clem preceded him in death September 15, 1934.
He had lived a faithful christian life and was a member of the Illinois Bend Christian Church where he had been a faithful worker.
A kind and loving father has passed on and his death is mourned by three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Attebery of Atlanta, Missouri, Mrs. Stella Attebery of La Plata, Missouri and Mrs. Lige Searcy of Taft, California, and two sons, Roy Clem of Fort Madison, Iowa and Dillard Clem of La Plata, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
On account of waiting to hear from the daughter in California, no arrangements have been made for the funeral.
