Elsie Bernice Owen, 91, of Ellsinore, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at her home.
Born March 5, 1915 in Holland, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Hattie Frances Utley Northern.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Verda Jo Warren Dillon; one brother, Thomas Northern; and one sister, Esther Callens.
Bernice was united in marriage to Spencer David Owen. He preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1969.
She was a retired House Parent for the Women's Dorm at the Missouri School of The Blind.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Van Buren and enjoyed quilting.
Mrs. Owen leaves two daughters: Marilyn Sanchez and her husband Paul of St. Peters and Carol Gene and her husband Ed of Ellsinore; One brother, Fenter D. Northern, of Montgomery, Ala.; Two sisters: Cathleen Wilson of Schell Knob and Johnnie Marie McCormick of Pine Bluff, Ark.; Eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Owen were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 at the McSpadden Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with Fenter Northern officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.

A St. Louis resident, Spencer David Owen, age 55, died here Friday, August 22. Mr. Spencer, a machinist, was born June 12, 1914 in Pemiscot County. He was the son of Willis and Florine (Douglas) Owen.
Mr. Owen was here for the funeral of his brother's wife, Mrs. Marcella Owen, when he was suddenly stricken while attending the funeral.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 25, at 2:00 p.m., at the German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele. Thomas Whitfield and Harold Hays officiated.
He leaves his wife, Bernice Northern Owen of St. Louis; three daughters, Verda Jo Warren of Sulphur, La., Marlyn Sanchez of St. Louis, and Carol Ann Gore of St. Louis; his mother Mrs. Florence Owen of Steele; one sister, Mrs. Marie Fowler of Blytheville; two brothers, Sam Owen of Steele, and James L. Owen of Abilene, Tex.; and ten grandchildren.
Interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
