Maxine Lay Richardson, 77, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla following a long illness.
She was born March 11, 1931, in Lynn, Ark., daughter of William Riley and Alta Viola Collins McGuire.
She accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Houston. She enjoyed cooking homemade dumplings and apple cobbler for her family.
She was a former president of the Fleet Reserve Association Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered at the gift shop at the Houston Senior Center until her illness kept her from doing so.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob and Henry McGuire; a former husband, Vester Murl Lay; and a grandson.
Survivors include her husband, Pearl, of the home; three sons, Jerry Rupe and Denny Lay of Houston, and Darrell Lay of Cabool; three daughters, Kathy Motzkus of Raymondville, Collene Christeson of Houston and Carlene Ford of Republic; a brother, Roy McGuire of Springhill, Kan.; a sister, Hazel Tubbs of Houston; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Elmer Turnbough and the Rev. Jerry Sousley officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
