Barbara Jean (Kirkey) Smith, age 51, of Nixa, stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 24, 2008, after a courageous fight with breast cancer. She was born July 29, 1956, in Springfield, the daughter of Billy Jean and Bonnie (McLaughlin) Kirkey.

Barbara was a 1974 graduate of Hillcrest High School and a skilled hairdresser until the birth of her children. In November 1994 she married John A. Smith in Miami, Florida. She loved homemaking, motherhood, boating, skiing, Bible study fellowship and her beloved Hopedale Baptist Church in Ozark.

Survivors include her husband, John A. Smith and two wonderful sons, Clinton A. and Jacob S. Smith, all of the home; a brother, Billy Kirkey and wife, Janet,Springfield; her sister, Brenda Yarnell and husband, Van, Springfield; her mother, Bonnie Kirkey, Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Bobby Sheffield.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Terry Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in McConnell-Bledsoe Cemetery, Nixa. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, Relay for Life, Bible Study Fellowship International, or the donor's choice.
