Funeral Services were held at Oak Ridge, Friday, for Charles Chism, 18, who died at midnight Wednesday from injuries sustained in a car accident here on February 8th. The services which were held at his home, were conducted by Rev. H.S. Holley, pastor of the Steele Methodist church and interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
Young Chism, a NYA worker employed by the highway department, was injured critically with three other Cooter young people when their car crashed into a parked truck on Main Street in Cooter early on the evening of Feb. 8th. He had since been in a critical condition at the Blytheville hospital, where he never regained consciousness. Two of three companions, Misses Geraldine and Imogene Davis are at the Blytheville hospital where their condition is satisfactory, ... Fred Carothers, driver of the car, was returned to his home a few hours after being given treatment at the hospital.
Chism was born near Blytheville, but had lived in this vicinity for the past ten years. He is survived by his parents, Tom Chism, Cooter, and Mrs. Connie Hamlett of Mississippi; one sister, Lois, and five brothers, Calvin, Howard, Farris, Finis and Cleo, all of Cooter.
