Funeral servcies for John Lewis DeVaughn were held at the First Baptist Church in Steele, January 24, 1960 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. James F. McCrary officiated. The Maby Funeral Home of Covington, Tennessee was in charge.
Mr. DeVaughn was born in Baldwyn, Mississippi in 1876 and died January 23, 1960 at the age of 83. He was married to Mattie Belle Sisk in 1896 and to that union was born ten children.
He moved to Missouri in 1941 and was a farmer until he moved to Covington, Tenn., where he retired due to bad health. Mr. DeVaughn was at the home of his daughter in Memphis at the time of his death.
Survivors are a son, H. T. DeVaughn, Covington; three daughters, Christine Holcomb of Covington, Tenn., and Luna Mae Jerls and Margie Miller of Memphis; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
His grandchildren include Louise and James DeVaughn and Mattie Lou Wade of Steele.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon, November 20, 1941 at the Baptist Church in Denton for Mrs. J. L. DeVaughn, who died November 19. Services were conducted by Rev. J. Seth Compere of Holland and burial was made in Mt. Zion Cemetery. German Undertaking Co. had charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mattie Belle DeVaughn was born October 8, 1876 and passed from this life November 19, 1941. She had spent her entire life at Pontotoc, Miss., with the exception of this past month, where she resided at Bragg City, Mo. She had been in ill health for the past five years only being confined to her bed the last two weeks. she was united in marriage in 1896 to J. L. DeVaughn, and to this union ten children were born, five of whom have preceded her in death.
Mrs. DeVaughn leaves to mourn her passing the husband, two sons, Edgar of Steele, Mo. and Thermon of Covington, Tenn., three daughters, Miss Luna DeVaughn of Bragg City, Mrs. Margie Porter, of Greenville, Miss., and Mrs. Christine Holcomb, of Bragg City, and 13 grandchildren, also one sister, Miss Lillie Sisk of Baldwyn, Miss., and a host of other relatives and friends.
