G.W. Poole, 81, of Cooter, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 at his home.
Born Jan. 16, 1926 in Crockett, Tenn., he is the son of the late L.A. Poole and Mary Ann Lumley Poole.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, J.W., Marvin and Elvis and one grandson.
G.W. was united in marriage to Julia K. McFarland on Dec. 4, 1945 in Blytheville, Ark.
He was self-employed in scrap and metal recycling.
He served his country in the United States Army.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and served under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter and served as a life time Deacon.
Mr. Poole leaves his wife, Julia K. Poole, of the home; Four sons: Donald Poole and his wife Janet of Nesbit, Miss., Ronald Poole and his wife Beth of Bonne Terre, Gary Poole and his wife Sherry of Steele and Randel Poole and his wife Debbie of Marble Hill; and One daughter, Delores Hall and her husband Ragan, of Portland, Tenn.; Nineteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Poole were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter with Rev. David Hart and Rev. Dave Lewelling officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with Powell Funeral Home of Steele in charge of services.
Pallbearers were Ben Poole, Ricky Poole, Danny Poole, David Poole, Dusty Storey, Michael Poole, Dustin Hall, Kyle Bittick, Randy Storey and Dustin Teeter.
