John Ellis Hopgood, 73, of Steele, died Thursday, february 12, 1981 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. He was a retired farmer and a member of First Baptist Church in Steele. He was the widower of Vivian Pounds Hopgood.
Mr. Hopgood leaves one son, Jerry E. Hopgood of Stevensville, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Hicks, of Steele; two brothers, Elmo Hopgood of Roellen, Tenn., and Parker Hopgood of Caruthersville; two sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Martin, of Steele, and Mrs. Ann Hamilton, of Hager Shore, Mich.; three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 15, 1981 at the First Baptist Church in Steele. Rev. James F. McCrary officiated and burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery. The H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services were held March 28, 1979 in the First Baptist Church in Steele for Vivian Levern Hopgood, 56. Rev. James F. McCrary officiated.

Mrs. Hopgood was born in Booneville, Miss. on December 1, 1922 and died March 26, 1979 in the William F. Bowld Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late John and Lou Irene Pounds. When a baby she moved with her parents from Mississippi to Pemiscot County, Mo. She attended schools in Pemiscot County.

On October 8, 1938, she was united in marriage to John Ellis Hopgood in Caruthersville, Mo. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steele.

Mrs. Hopgood leaves her husband, Mr. John Ellis Hopgood of Steele; one son, Jerry E. Hopgood of Stevensville, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Hicks, of Steele; two grandsons, Shayne Hopgood and Ryan Hopgood, both of Crossville, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Miss Shana Hicks of Steele; two nephews: Bobby Stokes of Memphis, Tenn., and Larry Martin of Peoria, Ariz.; and one niece, Mrs. Wanda Whittington of Cooter.

Pallbearers were Thelbert Bishop, Eddie Gilbert, Leslie Knott, Sr., George Cooke, John W. Lipscomb and Rockey Booker.

Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
