Services for Leslie Mechelle Gilbert, 15, of Steele, who died Oct. 4th from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, were held Oct. 7th at the First Baptist Church in Steele with the Rev. James F. McCrary officiating.

Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery with John W. German Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was born Nov. 3, 1962, at the hospital in Hayti, the daughter of Eddie and Bonnie Johnson Gilbert of Steele.

She was an honor student in her sophomore class at South Pemiscot High School, a cheerleader, a member of the high school band, a member of the First Baptist Church and a former member of Girl Scout Troop 15.

Survivors include her parents, two sisters, Kim and Teresa Gilbert, both of the home; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Gilbert of Steele, Mrs. Irene Johnson of Steele, and Newberry Johnson of McKenzie, Tenn.

Pallbearers were Billy G. Lewis, Charles Brown, Jerry Sinko, Johnnie Whitaker, Thelbert Bishop, and Butch Williqams.

Honorary pallbearers were South Pemiscot teachers, cheerleaders, football team members, and students.
