Mrs. Vivian N. Gilbert, 84, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Born January 9, 1912 at Lafayette, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Sam Cotner and Lula Yoakum Cotner.
Her husband, Everett C. Gilbert, preceded her in death on July 10, 1986.
A granddaughter, Leslie Gilbert, also preceded her in death.
A seamstress, she had done alterations for several businesses.
Mrs. Gilbert leaves two sons: Eddie Gilbert and Tommy Gilbert, both of Steele, Mo., a brother, Waldo Cotner, of Kenton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gilbert were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 1997, at the First Baptist Church in Steele with Rev. Michael Funderburk officiating.
Burial was at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele with John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Pallbearers were Howard Burns, Kenny Brewer, Kelly Wagner, Todd Mays, Mark Carter, and Johnny Stegall.
Honorary pallbearers were Mike Nealey, Ronnie Duckworth, Dennis McCaig, Scott McCaig, Bruce McCaig, Mike Tomlinson, Greg Wright, Keith Evans and Joe Stegall.

Mr. Everett C. Gilbert was born April 4, 1911, at North Lewisburg, Ohio, and died July 10, 1986 at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was 75.

Mr. Gilbert worked for the Randall Company of Blytheville, Ark., as a tool engineer until his retirement. He was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Steele and was a member of the North Lewisburg Masonic Temple in North Lewisburg, Ohio.

He was the son of the late Edward Dow Gilbert and Mae Elliott Gilbert. Besides his parents, one granddaughter, Leslie, and a brother preceded him in death.

At Ridgeway, Ohio, on June 17, 1939, he was united in marriage to Vivian Cotner.

He leaves the following: wife - Mrs. Vivian Gilbert of Steele; two sons - Eddie Gilbert and Tommy Gilbert, both of Steele; five granddaughters; one great grandson; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 13, 1986, at 2:30 p.m. at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist church in Steele with Rev. Ken Attix and Rev. Billy Skinner officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele, John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge. Pallbearers were Clarence Poteet, Dee Crews, Eddie Rinehart, Randall Hawks, Johnny carter, and Henry Neal.
