Catherine Fay Melton, 72, daughter of Lee Thomas Tabor and Nellie May McBride Tabor, was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Douglas County. She died March 27, 2005.
She married James E. Melton Feb. 24, 1951, at Mountain View. They had three children.
Mrs. Melton was employed by Whitaker Cable in North Kansas City for many years.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond Lee and Billy Joe Tabor; and a great-granddaughter.
Surviving are her husband of Bucyrus; son, James Lee Melton of Riverside; daughters, Bonnie Herriott of Wickliffe, Ky., and Linda King of Kansas City; brothers, Bob Tabor of Evansville, Ind., Clifford Tabor of Mountain View and Carl Tabor of West Plains; sisters, Edna Phelps of Mountain View, Bennie Baumgarth of Cedar Hill and Hazel Easky of St. Clair; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 o'clock today (Thursday) at the Willow Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the Willow Springs City Cemetery.

James Elmore Melton, a resident of Bucyrus, MO passed away peacefully in his sleep early Thursday morning, July 18, 2019 while at Houston House Nursing Center in Houston, MO, to reunite with his beloved wife, Catherine. Born December 10, 1930 to William F. and Lora Mae (Perkins) Melton in Wappapello, MO, he was 88 years old.
He and Catherine Tabor were married on February 24, 1952 in Mountain View, MO and together they had three children: Bonnie Harriott (passed Oct. 2013), Linda King (Robert), James Lee Melton (Cheryl), all of Kansas City, MO. Elmore was an equipment operator, employed by Corn Products of North Kansas City for more than 30 years. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler, and EATING. He was always asking Catherine what was for dinner while still eating breakfast. Upon retirement, he and Catherine moved to a cabin on Table Rock Lake. After their first winter on the lake, they decided that wasn’t the place for them. The following spring, they moved to a beautiful farm in Ellis Prairie/Bucyrus, MO where they lived happily together until Catherine’s passing in the Spring of 2005. Sadly, for all, the farm and home were recently auctioned off due to Elmore’s failing health. At that time, he was transferred to Houston House, a wonderful health care facility, where he was visited daily by his loving and supportive niece, Marsha Shearrer and her husband, Ralph.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, his wife, one daughter, and one great-granddaughter.
He is survived by two children; six grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, sisters, and brothers-in-law, who were like blood to him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Houston House, the American Heart Association, or the Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City.
REST IN PEACE NOW…your journey here has ended and all those whom you loved and are left behind will be here to carry on for you. Don’t forget to give Catherine a hug and kiss from all of us.
A graveside service for Mr. Melton will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at the Willow Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Willow Funeral Home, LLC. On-line condolences may be left at www.willowspringsfuneralhome.com
