"By order of President Truman at a ceremony held at the Caruthersville Mo Armory 4 Nov 1950 the Silver Star for Bravery was presented to Samuel and Cledie Rhodes in HONOR of their son James Alford Rhodes. James held the enemy at bay while his squad retreated to safer cover and retrieved his squad leader and carried him a half mile to the aid station after being wounded himself."
