Scott Lee Scantlin, was a son, brother, uncle, mentor, musician and above all else a friend. On Monday, December 10, 2012 he left us too soon; after only 49 years.

He was born at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA on June 18, 1963 to William and Barbara Scantlin. Being the son of a career Navy pilot, Scott grew up in varied and sometimes exotic locales both inside and outside of the United States. Depending on where his family was stationed, he enjoyed growing and playing in environs from Okinawa to suburban Washington, D.C. Upon his father’s retirement from the Navy, Scott moved with his family to Neosho, MO. Here he graduated from Neosho High School in 1981.

During this time, and after graduation from high school, Scott developed an intense and lasting love of music. While in high school he was a member of the Wildcat Band playing both the trumpet and trombone. Also during this time he learned to play the guitar, which would have a lasting impact on his life. He followed his dream and with a group of his high school friends formed, toured, and played with the band City Limits.

In 1989 he married Vicki Mitchell. He went on to graduate from Missouri Southern with a degree in Business Communication. Scott worked for a local TV station in Joplin, MO. After working and living in Joplin for several years, he and Vicki moved to the Springfield, MO. area. After their divorce, he continued to live in Springfield.

Scott worked at the NBC affiliate KYTV in Springfield, MO for 13 years. He was a valued employee and trusted coworker. He could be both a total professional when advising a client and a prankster giving a fellow colleague a humorous uplift on an otherwise mundane work day. Scott’s amazing blend of creativity and artistry was shared through his countless commercials and music “gigs” seen throughout the Ozarks.

Scott loved playing with the band City Limits. Scott exhibited a deep and unabashed joy when performing with his fellow band members. He was creative, intense, and compassionate when it came to the writing, collaboration and performance of his music with his fellow City Limits band members. Scott was proud of the band’s accomplishments. These included, but were not limited to, the release of a self-name titled album in 2008 and countless concerts played in the region to benefit local charities. City Limit’s loyal and large following is a testament to how much Scott and the band were esteemed and admired. Scott played simply because he loved the music.
Scott was respected and loved by his family, friends and colleagues. No matter what kind of day he was having he always tossed out a “Have a good evening” to whomever walked out the door with him. He would then roll away into the evening on his Harley. Scott, until we see you again, “Have a good evening”. You will be missed.

Scott is survived by his mother; Barbara Scantlin of Neosho, MO; his brother; William Ward Scantlin and wife, Ronda of Dayton, OH; his sister; Kelly Jo Smith and husband Brad of LaJunta, CO; two nieces Hannah Smith and Alexandra Scantlin.
