Opal Burress, 79, of Holland, Mo., died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at the Westwood Hills Health Care Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born September 15, 1923, in Keiser, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Herbert James and Maud Boren James.
Opal was united in marriage to Hershell Burress on July 14, 1940, at Cooter, Missouri.
She was a retired supervisor of food service for the South Pemiscot School district in Steele, Mo. She was known for famous cakes and goodies, and she loved to bake and share with others.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holland.
Mrs. Burress leaves her husband, Hershell Burress of Holland; One daughter, Joan DeCourley and her husband, Connie, of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Bea Lee and Edna Ruth German of Steele, and Ruby Dixon of Pascola, Mo.; Two brothers, Billy James of Campbell, Mo. and Buddy James of Caruthersville, Missouri; Two grandsons: Chris Massey of Wardell, Mo. and Jason Morgan of Poplar Bluff.
Two great-grandchildren: Brandon Massey, and Lauren Massey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burress were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Holland with Bro. John Earl Dunavant officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
