Mrs. Liza Belle Whitfield, 98, of Steele, died Oct. 22 at River Oaks Nursing Home. Born July 27, 1888 in Holladay, Tenn., she was the daughter of James R. and Belle Harris Hatley. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ. She moved with her famly from Tennessee to Missouri in 1917. She was the widow of Thomas W. Whitfield.
She is survived by five sons, Thomas C. Whitfield of Nashville, J.L. Whitfield of Hayti, David and W.D. "Buck" Whitfield, both of Steele, and Douthit Whitfield of Camden, Tenn.; Two daughters, Mrs. Irene Hatley of Camden and Mrs. Christine Yates of Memphis; One brother, Bill Hatley of Indiana; Twenty-one grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elsielene.
Services were Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. at Steele Church of Christ, Mark Raulerson and Thomas C. Whitfield officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery, John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
Pallbearers were Roy, Gary, Jim, Douglas and Jeff Whitfield and Thomas Hatley.
