Pemiscot Journal - Caruthersville, Missouri - June 26, 1984:
Elmer "Jug" Nichols, 80, of Steele, died Wednesday at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 7, 1903 in Tennessee, he was the son of Robert L. and Lucy Howell Nichols. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Wade Nichols of Steele; Three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Hutcheson of Ridgely, Tenn., and Mrs. Q'Bell Crawford and Mrs. Artie Grissom, both of Steele; Two sons, Talbert Nichols of Jonesboro and Bill Nichols of Steele; One sister, Mrs. Gladys Hastings of Orlando, Fla.; One brother, Jessie Nichols of Hot Springs, Ark.; Eleven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at 3 p.m. at German-Aumon Funeral home chapel in Steele, Walter Lumpkin and the Rev. Fred Albright officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Emma "Babe" Nichols, 89, of Steele, died July 31, 1991 at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis. Born March 15, 1902 in Savannah, Tenn., she was the daughter of John and Lula Kitchen Wade. She was the widow of Elmer Nichols. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by two sons, Talbert Nichols of Jonesboro and Bill Nichols of Steele: Three daughters, Myrtle Hutcheson of Ridgely, Tenn., and Q'Bell Crawford and Artie Grissom, both of Steele; One sister, Edna Nichols of Leland, Miss.; Eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
A Son, John Nichols, also preceded her in death.
Services were Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw German-Aumon Funeral Home chapel in Steele, the Rev. Charles Clark and Bill Brown officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
