Mrs. Laura Lavonia Houser was born in the state of Tennessee December 15, 1869, the daughter of the late William and Lucinda Hargrove, and passed away at her home near Hurley, Mo., on May 5, 1948. She moved to Greene county, Missouri, with her parents when she was two years old and at the age of eighteen she moved to the home in Stone county where she has lived for 60 years. She was united in marriage to John Houser on May 31, 1891, and to this union ten children were born. Two daughters, Mrs. Myra Smith and Mrs. Zelma Sifferman preceded her in death. She was converted early in life and united with the Primitive Baptist church. She was a consecrated worker, a devoted wife and loving mother. Surviving are her husband, John; six sons, J.G. of Central Point, Ore.; Herman of Visalia, Calif., Alfred and Cecil of Crane, Archie of Del Rey, Calif., and C.H. of Billings; two daughters, Mrs. Mae Gold of Crane and Mrs. A.B. Davis of Rogers, Ark.; one sister, Mrs. Anna Long of Texas; 31 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Hurley school auditorium by Rev. O.E. Coones of Bentonville, Ark. Burial was in the Short cemetery under direction of the Maples Funeral Home of Clever.
