Ruth Jane Spears, age 94, of Hurley, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, January 13, 2014. She was born October 14, 1919, in Stone County, Missouri, the daughter of Robert and Lenna (Shannon) Parks. On May 23, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage to Kenneth Spears
Ruth was a schoolteacher for 36 years, teaching most of those years, in the Hurley School System. She was an active member of the Hurley Southern Baptist Church for many years, where she served as an Adult Sunday School teacher. She also served her community and Stone County by serving on various boards and committees throughout her lifetime.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Hugh Parks, and an infant daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Hadlock, and husband George; two grandsons, Todd Hadlock, and Jeff Hadlock and wife Christina; six great-grandchildren, Madison and fiancé Austin McCanless, Garrett, Dalyn, Lynna, Neilson, and Claudia Hadlock; and one great-great-granddaughter, Journey McCanless.
Burial in Short Cemetery, Hurley.
