Luther Holt, 76, Hurley, died at 4:14 p.m. Monday, September 7, in St. John's Regional Health Center. He was born March 12, 1922 in Buchanan, to Andy and Annie (Gilbert) Holt. Luther served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II. He earned the EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars. He also earned the Purple Heart after being wounded in action in Italy. A longtime resident of Hurley, he was a farmer until retirement. –He is preceded in death by his parents and 13 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Wilda Jean; 2 sons, Gary Holt of Gassville, Arkansas and Frankie Holt of Springfield; 2 daughters, Linda Sue Holt and Ellen Carr, both of Hurley; 2 sisters, his twin, Lucille Hale, of Ozark and Ethel Chapman of Springfield; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 11, in Meadors Chapel, Clever, with Rev. Herbert Ward officiating. Burial will be in Hood Cemetery West of Hurley. Visitation was at 7-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
