William Ray (Silver) Gold, was born October 21, 1930 to Lee Austin and Josephine (Mitchel) Gold. Silver left this world on October 11, 2016.
Silver lived his entire life in the Crane area. He proudly served in the Korean War as a quartermaster from January 1952 to January 1954. Upon his return home, he worked at the MFA station and then worked several years for Bill Laue. During the time he for Bill he became a substitute mail carrier and then was promoted to full carrier. After 28 years of service, he retired in 1994.
Silver was an honest, quiet person. Always ready to help those in need. He lived for years with his mother. He helped her care for his aunt Juanita, then later his aunt Betty.
Silver married Janet Howerton in 2010. He loved and accepted her daughters, Annette (Doyle), Jeanette (Dennis) and Julie (Carl) as his own., He was Poppy, Papa and GPS (Grand Pa Silver) to 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Archie Lee and Jay Calvin and two cherished nieces, Deana Benton and Karen Gold.
He is survived by his wife Janet; stepdaughters and their husbands; a much-loved cousin, Hosea and his wife Philis and many other cousins; Very special friends, Kent and Rachael Cook, Stan and Wanda Lantz and many other friends too numerous to name.
As per his request, there will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Westrip Funeral Home, Crane. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery, Crane. After the service, those wishing to are welcome to come to the house to share their memories.
