Billie C. "Bill" Garner, age 78, of Monett, MO, passed from this life to his eternal home on Monday morning, April 1, 2013, while at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.

Bill was born on April 26, 1934 in Eagle Rock, MO, son of the late Floyd and Golda (Reed) Garner. Bill grew up in the Cassville area and had attended school in Butterfield until his junior year when he began going to school in Cassville. Bill graduated from Cassville High School in 1951. Bill then enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. He was employed as Meat Department Manager for Moss Market and for Ramey's, retiring from Cassville Ramey's in 1997. Bill was also a U.S.D.A. Food Inspector. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett and a former member of the Cassville Lion's Club. Many things brought joy to Bill's life including restoring classic cars. He especially liked antique Mercedes Benz and Austin Healey. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and traveling with his wife. The most joy, however, came with spending time with family and friends.

On December 28, 1962, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bill and Carlene Brown were united in marriage. They were blessed with over 50 years of companionship. Bill is survived by his wife Carlene, of the home; one sister, Jean Conn, of Aurora, MO; one sister-in-law, Patsy Garner, of Cassville; one brother-in-law, Edward Brown, of Nashville, TN; seven nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; and three great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis and Wesley Garner.

A celebration of life service will be held for Mr. Garner at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett. Reverend Richard Cody will be officiating. Interment will be held prior at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Russell Cemetery, Butterfield, MO. Visitation will be from 6-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at St. John's Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home.
