Lucy Etta "Charlene" Barber was born January 19, 1933, in Springfield, the daughter of Charles K. Barber and Clella Crete (Hesterlee) Barber.

At the death of her mother, she and some other siblings were put in The Springfield Children's Home. She was taken out of the home at age four and raised by foster parents, Theodore and Minnie Meadows, of Mano. Her first years of school were at the East Fork School on Rock Creek. The family later moved to Cassville where she graduated with the Class of 1950.

Following graduation, she worked at the Standard Mutual Insurance Company of Cassville until her marriage.

On November 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Leon Laverne Paul, of Washburn, at the First Baptist Church of Cassville by Rev. O.V. Dodson.

In 1970, she was saved and baptized into Washburn First Baptist Church. She served as Sunday School Teacher 29 years, working with classes from nursery to adult women. She served as church clerk for 26 years and church historian over 27 years.

She had also been a leader of Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, 4-H, Extension Council Member, represented Barry County, in 1972 as a member of the Farm Family of the Year. She worked along with her husband in their Grade A Dairy and beef operations.

In the 1970's, she began writing poetry. Several have been published but most were just shared with family and special friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie Sue Hubrig and husband, Bruce; four sons, David Lynn Paul, Robert Alan Paul and wife, Michelle, Jerry Leon Paul and wife, Yi Liu, all of Washburn, and Dennis R. Paul, of St. Louis; sister-in-law, Ruby Barber, of Dixon; aunt Hester (Hesterlee) Tidwell, of Wasola; nine grandsons, Austin Leon Deans and wife, Betty Lou, Philip Scot Deans and wife, Jamie, James Leon Paul and wife, Crystal, Jeffrey Alan Paul and wife, Whitney, Nelson Laverne Paul, Ryan Alan Paul, Christopher Evan "Fred" Paul, David Anthony Paul, and Tyler Shane "Spoon" Paul and wife, Britney; one granddaughter, Andrea (Paul) England; fifteen great-grandchildren, Martha King, Sydney Kathleen, Kyla Autum, Kristal Rain, Silas Austin and Taya Aspen Deans, Seth Alan and Olivia Gragson Paul, Owyn Layn and Garrett Alan England and Bently Lynn, Makayla Marie, Lucas Ryder, Juno and Delilah Marie Gayle Paul; one great-great grandson, William King; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Leon L. Paul; her parents, Charles and Clella Barber; foster parents, Theodore and Minnie Meadows; foster sister, Lucille Easley and husband, Everett; two halfbrothers, Irwin Hesterlee and Roy Howard; three brothers, George R. Barber, Stanley G. Barber, and Ed Stewart (Cecil Barber); one sister, Madeleine Rose (Barber) Taylor; the youngest sister has never been found; two granddaughters, Shelby Lynn Paul and Brett Diane Paul; one niece, Helen L. Barber; one nephew, Kenneth Lee Taylor; and several uncles and aunts.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, in Washburn First Baptist Church under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Reverend Max Edmondson and Reverend Bob Gaddis conducted the services. Burial was in Washburn Prairie Cemetery, Washburn.

The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
