DEATH OF MRS. KATE JENKS

Long-Time Resident Succumbs at Age of 89

Mrs. Kate Jenks, 89, a resident of Carthage for many years, passed away at 7:30 o'clock last night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. James Carter, at Stella, MO. She had long been in ill health.
Mrs. Jenks was born October 25, 1846 in England. Her father, Mr. Montgomery, came to this country when she was a small child and soon afterwards her mother and the children came here to live. They settled in Ohio. Her mother died while Mrs. Jenks was still a small child and she came with a family to Kansas where she made her home until after her marriage to L. B. Jenks at the close of the Civil War. The family later moved to Carthage where Mrs. Jenks made her home until last September when she went to Stella to live with Mrs. Carter. For many years Mrs. Jenks made her home here with her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Lowry.
Surviving Mrs. Jenks are three daughter, Mrs. James Carter of Stella; Mrs. James Webb and Mrs. Lowry of Carthage; a son, Charles Jenks of Carthage; a grand-daughter, Mrs. Fred Hesser of Carthage and Betty Hesser is a great grand-daughter. Mr. Jenks died five years ago and a son, George Jenks, died three years ago.
Mrs. Jenks was a member of the Christian Science Church.
Christian Science services will be conducted at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Knell service home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery beside her son, George.
