She was born Dec. 30, 1916 [NOTE: grave marker indicates a birth date of Dec. 31, 1917], on the family farm (Catalpa Grove Angus Farm) in western Adair County near Pure Air, the daughter of Frank and Ollie (Hammons) Eitel.

Francis Case, who preceded her in death.

She taught at Maple Grove and Yarrow rural schools in western Adair County. She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and the University of Missouri. After she was married, they resided in Kirksville, where they operated a grocery business and then moved to Jefferson City, where Francis served under the Missouri Department of Agriculture before moving to Columbia in 1954. After losing her 7-year-old son Johnny to polio and her husband at a young age in 1958, Leora worked as a seamstress in her own furniture upholstery business and as an investor in residential real estate to provide for her son Jerry, who survived polio. She put him through college at the University of Missouri.

Leora was a Charter Member of the Community Methodist Church in Columbia.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Sharyn Fry of Columbia; sister Faye Parsell of Jerseyville, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Barbara Eitel of Greencastle; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Leora was preceded in death by her husband and their two sons, John and Jerry. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Reuben Eitel, Kenneth Eitel, both of Greencastle, and Nile Eitel and his wife, Aldean, of Green City; two sisters, Betty Swords and her husband, Dr. Harvey Swords, of Dallas, Texas, and Veneta Burns and her husband, Kenneth, of Elmer; brother-in-laws, Harold Parsell of Jerseyville, Ill., Wilford Case of Streator, Ill.; sister-in-law Eileen Hoernerdinger of Highland Park, Ill., and Elizabeth Johnson of Westfield, N.Y.
