ADAIR COUNTY, MISSOURI Retyped from the 1979 Adair Cemetery Book by Michele Cragg, June 2003. Some information was added by Ms. Cragg.
The site for the Brashear Cemetery was chosen by Dr. S. L. Ellis'' wife as she viewed the acreage from their home on the hilltop to the East. In 1890 Dr. Ellis engaged the services of the county surveyor, Stephen Hall, to plot lots, tracts and alleys on the three and one-half (3 ½ ) acres. This was filed for recording by Adair County Recorder, A. P. Hibbs on June 10th 1891 according to Plot Book #2, page 32. Mrs. Ellis was the first to be buried in the Brashear Cemetery. There are graves of an earlier date, but they were bodies moved from Paultown Cemetery. When the railway went through.
