Zella R. Begole, 97, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of LaPlata, Missouri, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, in Genesis Medical Center Campus, Silvis, Illinois.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Travis Funeral Chapel, LaPlata, Missouri. Burial is in Gibbs Union Cemetery, Gibbs, Missouri. Visitation is one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, LaPlata. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.

The former Zella Ruth Overstreet was born January 9, 1911, in Grundy Center, Iowa, the daughter of William Arthur and Susie Anna (Dover) Overstreet. She married Bert Begole in 1928, in Kirksville, Missouri. He died in 1972. She was a registered nurse at Laughlin Hospital, Kirksville, for 18 years.

Zella was the first woman juror in Adair County, Missouri, in 1939. She attended First Christian Church, Moline.

Zella is survived by her sister, Eudema Huffman of Moline; and several nieces and nephews, including Larry and Judith Huffman of Hallsville, Missouri, Sharon and Geoff Hicks of Colona, Illinois, and Susan and Rick Riggs of Moline, and their families.

She and her husband raised 53 foster children, including a special foster son, Frank Love Jr. of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two children, Darlene and Roger Begole; a sister, Claudia Ratliff; a brother, William Arthur Overstreet, Jr.; a brother-in-law,
Eugene Huffman; and a nephew, Dwight Huffman.
