CASKEY—At his residence in Millard, Mo., April 3d, 1889, Mr. Silas Caskey, father of our two townsmen, John and Jonas Caskey, aged 77 years and 1 month, and 8 days.

He was born in Virginia, but his parents moved to Carroll county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood and resided till 1865, when he came to Illinois. Early in life he was married to Miss Margaret Shaw and to them was born two children, the mother dying while they were quite small. Some years after her death, Mr. Caskey was married to Miss Elizabeth Brock and to them was born twelve children. Five of his children preceeded [sic] him to the grave.

Mr. Caskey was a man of unusually quiet manner, a good citizen of unquestioned integrity in all the walks of life. His home was the scene of industry, frugality and solid comfort. His example in his family and community made him a rich blessing and deeply intrenched him in the affection of wife and children, and in the confidence and esteem of his neighbors.

While in the middle of life he embraced the Savior and united with the M.E. church. After removing to this state he became a member of the United Brethren in which church he lived as a worthy and beloved member till called to his heavenly home.

Having resided in this county since 1868, he was well known and most highly respected.

For months before his departure the infirmities of age were bearing on him heavily, but he was patient and was waiting for the Savior's call. He died in great peace.

Brother Caskey was a good man and will be sorely missed by his aged companion, his children and many friends.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."
