Gertrude married James Ray Zentz on November 14, 1912, at Adair County, Missouri. They had one son: Bernard Lee Zentz (1920-1991). The couple were later divorced.
MRS. GERTRUDE ZENTZ, 34, DIES SUNDAY MORNING
Funeral and Burial to Be Held At Gibbs Tuesday Afternoon
Mrs. Gertrude Knotts Zents [sic], 34 years old, of this city, died at a hospital here Sunday morning following a week's illness. She was operated on for appendicitis on Saturday, August 15, and peritonitis developed.
She was a daughter of J.R. and Jessie Knotts and was born in Chariton, Iowa, August 30, 1896. At the age of five years she moved with her parents to Missouri, living near Kirksville and Gibbs, where she grew to young womanhood. She was married to Ray Zentz on November 12, 1912, and to this union one son, Bernard, was born, and survives her. She is also survived by her mother who lives at Brashear, five sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Lettie Sandage of Pablo, Mont., Mrs. J.A. Blummer of Clearmont, Wyo., W.P. Knotts of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Ethel Stotts and Lewis Knotts of Gibbs, Mrs. Mary McBride of Toreva, Ariz., Mrs. Sue Sykes and John Knotts of Kirksville, and twenty nieces and nephews.
She was converted and joined the Methodist Church when a girl. For a number of years she has been employed in the shoe factory.
The funeral services will be at the Methodist Church in Gibbs at 2 p.m., Tuesday, and burial in Union Cemetery.
