Forrest McVay was born September 4, 1906, in Atlanta, Mo., the son of William Henry and Bertha Lucille (Belfield) McVay, and passed away Tuesday, January 26, 1988, in a Kirksville, Mo., hospital at the age of 81.
On April 17, 1935, he married Wilma Bailey, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Don McVay, Marshalltown, Ia.; three grandchildren, Michelle, Linda and Doug McVay; two brothers, Walter McVay, Kirksville, Mo., and Gale McVay, Houston, Mo; and one sister, Ellen McVay, Houston, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Madge Moncrief.
Mr. McVay attended LaPlata public schools and was a graduate of LaPlata High School. He was engaged in farming in the LaPlata, Downing, and Memphis areas until 1955. In 1957 he moved to Kirksville, Mo., and was employed at Karl Miller Estates until his retirement in 1976.
Mr. McVay was a member of First Christian Church and served as a deacon for several years.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 29, 1988, in the chapel of Fohn Funeral Home, Kirksville, Mo. The Rev. Franklin Hall, pastor of First Christian Church, conducted the services. Music was provided by Dianthe Cable, organist, and Roger York, soloist. Selections were "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art."
Bearers were Charles Krueger, Albert Sykes, Art Huff, Tom Sutton, Harold Rodabaugh and Ruby Green. Interment was in Greentop Cemetery.
Wilma McVay
Wilma Lucille McVay, daughter of Carlos H. and E. Anice Bailey, was born October 10, 1910, in Kirksville, Mo., and died Wednesday, February 8, 1995, in Marshalltown, Ia., at the age of 84 years.
She was united to Forrest McVay on April 17, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Chester Bailey and Robert Bailey; and one sister, Emogene Alley.
Surviving are one son, Donald McVay and wife Pat, Marshalltown, Ia.; three grandchildren, Michelle Larson, Linda McVay and Doug McVay; and one sister, Grace Kennedy, Russell, Kan.
Mr. and Mrs. McVay farmed in the Downing and Memphis areas until 1955, when they moved to Kirksville, Mo. She went to live with her son Donald in 1993.
She was a sales clerk and receptionist.
Services were held Saturday, February 11, 1995, in Travis-Noe Funeral Home, Kirksville, Mo., with Bro. Darrel Swafford officiating. Burial was in Greentop Cemetery.
