Marilyn Joyce Barnhill, 75 of La Plata, MO passed away Tuesday January 3, 2012 at the La Plata Nursing Home.

The daughter of Owen Newman and Dorothy(Lee)Houston, she was born December 16, 1936 in Greentop, MO. She grew up in the Greentop area and attended the Hazel Creek School. For several years she worked at nursing homes in Kirksville. On June 10, 1978 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Donald Barnhill. She and Donald lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and later returned to Kirksville.

She was a member of the Lightouse Assembly of God Church in La Plata.

Marilyn is survived by one brother, Dennis Houston and wife Louise of La Plata, MO; one sister, Shirley Peterson of Bettendorf, IA; one nephew, Allen Peterson; three neieces, Carol Martin, Janet Eagen and Cindy Ridgewell; six great nephews, one great niece and two great great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on May 11, 2008.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 1 pm Thursday January 5, 2012 at Highland Park Cemetery with Reverend John Gorham officiating. Visitation will be after 9 am Thursday with the family receiving friends from 12-1 pm Thursday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Kirksville, MO. Memorials in memory of Marilyn are suggested to the La Plata Nursing home.
