Jesse Clayton Blackmon age 91 of Kirksville passed away in the Northeast Medical Center in Kirksville Saturday Morning September 26, 1998.

He was born in Blunt County, Alabama on February 11, 1907 the son of John and Tillie Blackmon.

In 1971 in St. Louis he was married to Ethel V. Bailey Vance.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three sisters and four brothers.

Surviving are his wife Ethel Blackmon of Kirksville, a son; Jesse C. Blackmon and his wife Betty of the state of Washington, a daughter; Carolyn Blackmon of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a sister; Belle Higgins of Knoxville, Tennessee, two step-daughters; Doris Mitchell and her husband Dale of Bethany, Missouri, Lois Stutsman and her husband John of Florissant, Missouri, a stepson; Kenneth Ice and his wife Jeannie of the state of Arkansas, one grandson, ten step-grandchildren and several step-great grandsons.

Jess was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kirksville for twenty-seven and one-half years where he served as a Deacon and at the time of his death was Deacon Emeritus, Kirksville Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M., the Veteran of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, RSVP and Missouri Division of Aging.

Mr. Blackmon attended elementary and high school in Blunt County, Alabama. He was a meat cutter by trade. During World War II he served in the United States Navy from March 27, 1943 and was discharged on September 7, 1945 with the Construction Battery in Virginia and Miami, Florida. He obtained the rating of SCIc.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday (September 29, 1998) at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Kirksville. The Reverend Ben Teague will officiate the services. Music will be provided by Ernest Motley, soloist and Cheyrl Newland, organist. Musical selections will be "The Old Rugged Cross" and Amazing Grace". Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.

Casket bearers will be Jack Weber, Bill Novinger, Glen Novinger, Wayne Newman, Tom Casady and Royce Cook.

Honorary bearers will be Jack Wellman, Larry Whitney, Wayne Cupp, Robert Umbarger, Mike Scott, Lou Spase, Joey Seay, Bill Baiotto, Duane Cole, Roland Nagel and Rodney Skinner.

Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 1998 in the Hudson-Rumer [sic] Park View Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Chapel.

Masonic Services will be conducted by the Kirksville Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M. at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Homes Park View Chapel, Kirksville, Missouri.
