Pioneer Citizen Passes Away

Hiram C. Dummit, a citizen of the Kings Prairie community since 1868, passed away at his home there Monday morning, August 15, aged 82 years.
Mr. Dummit had been confined to his bed for sometime due to weakness from old age. Monday morning he ate a hearty breakfast and sat up a short time. When his sons who saw that he was tired, went to help him back to his bed they discovered that death was upon him and he soon passed away without a struggle.

Mr. Dummit was a native of Kentucky, born there March 5, 1839. He was the father of thirteen children, six of whom are living: F. R., R. S., Charley and Joe Dummit, and Mrs. Earl Drake and Mrs. Sarah Sims.

MRS. TRANQILLA DUMMIT DEAD

Mrs. Tranquilla Dummit, wife of H. C. Dummit, was born in Tennessee, December 1, 1841, and died at her home on Kings Prairie at 7:05 p.m. Satur day, December 27, 1919. She had been in failing health for the past few months and on Christmas eve took ill with pneumonia which resulted in he r death.

Mrs. Dummit had lived on Kings Prairie for many years and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She lived on the adjoining farm of her twin sister, Mrs. Fount Jackson, who is critically ill.

All her children were at her bedside when she passed away except one son , J. D. Dummit, of Gooding, Idaho. Other children who are left to mourn h er death are Mrs. C.C. Drake, C.A. Dummit, F. R. Dummit, Robert Dummit , of Monett, and Mrs. Sadie Simms, of Springfield.

Funeral services were held at Kings Prairie Union church at 2:30 p.m., December 29, Rev. J. F. King officiating. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
