Nova E. Foster, 68, of Port Richey, Florida, formerly of Kirksville died Monday June 21, 1982 in the Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
The son of W.A. and Maude (Drury) Foster he was born in Kirksville on November 1, 1913. On May 12, 1965 he married Glenna Williams Delaney who survives. Also surviving is his mother of 1206 N. Green Street, and Mrs. Richard (Ruth Anne) Mason, Gainesville, Florida, a cousin who made her home with the Fosters and Jason Matthew Mason and other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Foster attended school in Kirksville, graduating from the Brashear High School in 1931, attended Northeast Missouri State University and Central Wesleyan College at Warrenton, Missouri.
He resided in Moberly, Missouri from 1933 to 1935. In 1936 he graduated from the Hohen-Shuh Carpenter College of Mortuary Science in St. Louis, Missouri. He was employed by Roy T. Baldridge Memorial Home in Centralia, Illinois from 1936-1939. From 1939 to March 21, 1941 he was employed at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, Illinois. In March 1941 he joined the U.S. Army serving in Ft. Riley, Kansas, Ft. Bliss, Texas and Ft. Lewis, Washington. He served in the European Theatre until November 1945. Following the war he was employed by Lain & Son in Chicago and managed Scwartz Funeral Home at Hannibal, Missouri.
In 1951, during the Korean Conflict, he was recalled to the service being discharged on March 14, 1953, having reached the rank of Captain.
On May 23, 1954 he opened the Foster Memorial Home, which he actively operated until his health forced his retirement in July 1977.
During the years in business he served as the Adair County Coroner from 1956 to 1964.
He and his wife retired to Port Richey in 1978.
He was a member of the Central Christian Church of Clearwater, Florida; Disabled American Veterans, New Port Richey, Florida; Adair Lodge No. 366, A.F. & A.M., Cal;dwell Chapter R.A.M. No. 53; Kirksville Council No. 44, R&S.M., Ely Commandery No. 22; K.T. Moila Temple (Legion of Honor); Veterans of Foreign Wars 2508; American Legion McDougal Lowe Post 20; Loyal Order of Moose Chapter of Kirksville and the Adair County Humane Society.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday June 24, 1982 in the chapel of the Foster-Fohn Memorial Home. The Rev. Walter Simpson and Rev. Archie Cooper will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Clay Dawson singing "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" and "Faith Unlocks The Door". He will be accompanied by Dianthe Cable, organist.
Burial wil be in the Highland Park cemetery with military rites at the graveside.
Bearerswill be Claude Jacobs, Jim Garlock, Bernice Payton, Joe Mihalovich, Johnny Brown, Jim Updyke, Rollie Mathes and Dorsey Thompson.
Honorary bearers will be Roger York, Glenn March, Brice Norman and Harold Harrison.
