Opal Ola Lou Kilburn, 77, of Olathe, Kan., passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, August, 9, 2014. She will be forever remembered as a devoted wife, loving mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt and friend. Opal was born March 3, 1937, in Thayer, Mo., to James and Zora (Marshall) Dawson. She was an excellent cook who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. Along with her homemaking, she also worked for Southwestern Bell, AT&T, Napa Auto Parts and the Olathe School District. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Kilburn was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James L. Kilburn, Sr., her parents, two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her three children, Jim Kilburn, Jr., Deborah Hulen and J.D. Kilburn. Opal is also survived by one brother, Jon Dawson. Left behind to cherish her memory are her nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 920 South Alta Lane, Olathe. Burial will follow in Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Mo. James Lewis Kilburn Sr., 84, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 17th 2012 at Olathe Medical Center. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. James was born on April 18, 1928 in Chula Missouri to Vernon and Fern (Graham) Kilburn. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for two years through the Korean War. James was a lifetime member of the VFW. He worked many positions for Delco Battery before retiring. He also enjoyed the outdoors, mostly fishing and gardening. He was a faithful member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. James is preceded in death by his parents: Vernon and Fern Kilburn and brother: Loyd Kilburn. Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Opal Ola Lou Kilburn of the home, his children: Jim Kilburn, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Independence, Missouri, Deborah “Debbie” Hulen of Olathe, Kansas and J.D. Kilburn of Fort Riley, Kansas. Three sisters: Doris Phillips of Overland Park, Kansas, DeLois Kesler of Chillicothe, Missouri and Letha Engleman of Meadville, Missouri. Left behind to cherish his memory are his seven grandchildren: Katherine Stanley, James Stanley and his wife Melissa, Valerie Hulen, Ronnie Hulen Jr. Gabrielle Marrs and her husband Matt, Andrea Morgan Kilburn and Levi James Kilburn. James is also survived by his eleven great grandchildren: Alexandria, Carli, Josie, Camrem, Carter, Vicktor, Anya, Liam, Zach, Lily, Mady, and “trigger” his faithful companion. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Redeemer Lutheran Church 920 South Alta Lane Olathe, Kansas. Burial with Military Honors in Wheeling Cemetery Wheeling Missouri. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21st at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Condolences may be offered at www.mcgilley-frye.com.
