“Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Long, Wheeling, died Wednesday at Hedrick Medical Center. She was 75.

She was born Oct. 24, 1907, at Hamilton, a daughter of James and Mary Alice Walker Bennett. She was reared there and on April 8, 1928, married John E. Long in Chillicothe. They made their home for a few years in Chillicothe, moving to St Joseph where they resided until their retirement when they moved to Wheeling in 1968. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Wheeling.

Survivors are a son, Jerry Long of Alvarado, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Meredith) Littrell of Wheeling and Mrs. Roland (Janet) Zirkley of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Anna Cox of Hamilton; and six grandchildren, Jerry DeWayne Long of Alvarado, Gary Littrell of Wichita, Kan., Glen Littrell of Wheeling, Alice Littrell of St Joseph, Brian Zirkley and Steve Zirkley, both of Independence; and a great-grandchild, Tiffany Littrell. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Wheeling. Burial will be in the Wheeling Cemetery.” The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, April 7, 1983



“John E. Long, 65, a resident of Wheeling, died at 7 o’clock this morning at the Chillicothe hospital where he had been a patient since Monday evening.

John Estelle Long, the son of Orestus Claude and Ruth (Allen) Long, was born May 10, 1906, in Carroll County, 7 miles south of Braymer. He was united in marriage in 1928 to Mary E. Bennett at Trenton. He retired in 1968 after being employed for 30 years with the Quaker Oats Company and moved to Wheeling three years ago. He was a member of the Wheeling Christian Church and Zwredatha Lodge No. 189, AF&AM, St. Joseph.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Long of the home; a son, Jerry D. Long of Fort Worth, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Meredith R.) Littrell of Wheeling and Mrs. Janet L. Zirkle of Independence; a brother, Buford Claude Long of Glendale, Calif.; and five sisters, Mrs. Leon Littrell of Wheeling, Miss Faye Long and Mrs. William Fifer of Chillicothe, Mrs. Ray Anderson of North Kansas City and Mrs. Marshall Yeast of Oneida, Ill.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sam Allen Long and Chester Orville Long.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at Wheeling Christian Church with the Rev. Myron J. Dick officiating. Interment will be in the Wheeling Cemetery.” The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, June 17, 1971
