Geraldine “Jeri” Turner Timmerman, 88, died on June 20, 2017, in Tucson, Arizona, where she had resided for several years. She was born on April 20, 1929, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Elizabeth Olive Turner and Thomas Irwin Turner. The family move to Cabool the following year, where Jeri and her seven siblings grew up and attended school. She graduated from Cabool High School as valedictorian in 1947.
In 1954, Jeri married Cabool native Fred Otis Timmerman, Jr., in a ceremony at the Cabool Methodist Church. Their son Mark Fred was born the next year and their daughter Jerianne in 1961. While a resident of Cabool, Jeri worked for the Cabool State Bank and owned and operated a women’s clothing store called “Jeri’s.”
In 1968, Jeri and her family relocated to Jefferson City, where she lived for many years. Jeri worked at the United Way and then at the Missouri Department of Education for two decades. Her husband Fred died in 1994, following a long illness.
Jeri was devoted to her children and her extended family. She is survived by her son Mark and his wife Kathleen McIntosh of Tucson, Arizona; her daughter Jerianne and her husband Robert Metry, Jr. of Arlington, Virginia; her granddaughter Caroline Tinker of Cave Junction, Oregon; her brother Ernest Turner of Houston, Texas; her sisters Betty Turner of Springfield, Mary Ann Hutcheson of Springfield and Wanda Sue Smyth of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews. Jeri was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Turner, Andy Turner and Donald Turner.
