Funeral services for Ira Owen James, 78, of 724 E. Harison will be held Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock in Hudson-Rimer Park View Chapel, Kirksville. The Rev. Beryl Cragg of Brashear will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery.
Mr. James died Sunday night at 11:25 at his home.
Born Mar. 8, 1899 in Adair County, he was the son of William and Mary Moots James. On Mar. 15, 1919 at Kirksville he was maried to Irene Ford who survives. Also surviving are one son, Max James of Mentor, Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Virginia) Shahan of East Middlebury, VT; six grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Paul James of Kirksville and 2 sisters, Ada O'Brien and Bessie Taylor, both of Kirksville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Mr. James resided in the Brashear community where he was engaged in farming until 1969 when he retired and moved to Kirksville.
He was a member of the Brashear Methodist Church.
The casket will be closed at the funeral hour and will not be reopened.
Bearers will be Rex Meline, Frank Foster, Virgil James, Harley James, Leland O'Brien and R.E. "Gene" Taylor

Funeral services for Irene Ford James, 79, formerly of Brashear and Kirksville, will be held in Hudson-Rimer Park View Chapel, Kirksville, Tuesday afternoon March 3, 1981 at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Leota Moore of Kirksville will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery.
Mrs. James died Friday February 27, 1981 at 8 o'clock in the home of her daughter in East Middleburg, Vt.
The daughter of Pearl andf Elza Ferguson, she was born April 27, 1901 in Springfield, Ohio. On March 15, 1919 in Kirksville she was married to Ira Owen James who preceded her in death on March 29, 1977.
Surviving are one son, Max James of Mentor. Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Virginia) Shahan of East Middleburg, Vermont; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Following her marriage, Mrs. Jams resided in Brashear until moving to Kirksville. Three years ago she moved to Vermont to make her home with her daughter.
Mrs. James was a member of the Church of the Nazaree in Branden, Vt.
Bearers will be Leland O'Brien, Kenneth Lovell, Harley James, Rex Meline, R.E. Taylor and Frank Foster.
