Frank C. Mason committed suicide at his home on East Illinois street last Friday morning about 4 o'clock by shooting himself through the heart with a 38 caliber revolver. Mr. Mason was in bed at the time and after firing the first shot, called to his daughter, Anna, who keeps house for him and said "Papa has shot himself" and immediately fired the second shot into his right breast and died almost instantly. Mr. Mason was 60 years old and came to Adair county from Indiana with his parents when 11 months old. He had lived in Adair county all of his life except 15 years spent in Colorado. He is survived by five daughters, three sons, an aged mother and two sisters. While in Colorado he was married to Miss Anna Powers. To this union were born six daughters and three sons of whom five daughters and two sons are living. Mrs. Mason died eight years ago and in 1910, Mr. Mason was married to Mrs. Jennie Young, who with their little son Frankie, survive him. The funeral took place from the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 1:30. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. R.W. Lilley, and the large audience attending attested the esteem in which Mr. Mason was held. After the funeral service at the church, the body was taken in charge by the masons and laid to rest in Highland park cemetery with the impressive ceremonies of the Masonic order.

------------

The will of Frank C. Mason, who committed suicide Friday morning was filed for probate by V.J. Howell, with whom the will was left after its execution. After providing for his funeral expenses and leaving $100 to his daughter, Venus Mason Moulton, the remainder of the estate is left to be divided equally among his other seven children, Ethel Lowrence, Edith Newman, Jessie Newman, Dine Mason, Anna Mason, John Mason, and Frank Mason, Jr. Venus Mason was adopted at an early age by a sister of Mr. Mason's first wife, and is now a resident of Boulder, Colo. The will does not mention Jennie Mason, his second wife, who at the time the will was executed, had a divorce pending against him. Two separate suits have been filed in circuit court for partitioning the lands, embracing about 600 acres, and some town property. The estate is valued at about $40,000.
