OBITUARY

William Orr was born in Virginia, February 18, 1820; departed this life February 18, 1912. When he was one year old his parents removed to Ohio, and later, when he was a small lad, to Sangamon County, Illinois, where he grew to manhood and where, in 1848, he was united in marriage to Minerva Drennan, who died four years ago. To this union there were born four children, three daughters and one son, all of whom are living.

Mr. Orr professed conversion in early life and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church[.] He was a short time afterwards made ruling elder, in which capacity he officiated for many years with faithfulness and diligence. When the services of his denomination were discontinued at Troy Mills he joined heartily in the support of the Methodist Church in services held there.

Mr. Orr was a man of clean and temperate habits, pure in mind and body, which doubtless accounted partly for his long life. He was an exemplary citizen, a kind and affectionate father and a loving husband. He leaves his loved ones a memory fragrant for purity of life, kindness of heart and general spirit of helpfulness. He was especially fond of assisting young men and many owe much of their success in life to the start, which, in both material things and in words of encouragement he gave them. He was a man of unquestioned integrity, honest to the core, and he was esteemed and highly respected by all who knew him. His long life in Adair County made him a host of friends, the most of whom, however, he outlived. In his younger life he was a prominent and influential citizen. He has gone to the heavenly home. Rather than condole, we congratulate those who are left on the splendid legacy of a good life and fragrant memory which has come down to them.

The funeral service was conducted from the Presbyterian Church by the pastor, Rev. W. C. Templeton, assisted by the Rev. G. W. Sharp, who for nearly half a century was a friend and co-worker with the deceased. Beautiful and appropriate hymns were sung by a quartette, and a large number of friends paid their tribute of love and respect to the memory of this departed citizen. The interment was in Highland Park Cemetery, where until the morning of the resurrection was laid to rest all that is mortal of a good and true and noble man.

Obituary.

Mrs. Minerva Orr was born in Sanganom [sic] county, Illinois, January 29th, 1830. She departed this life Sept. 24th, 1907 at her home in Kirksville.

The father of the deceased, Ezekiel Drennan, was one of the first settlers in that part of the state. it was there her girlhood and early married life were lived.

She was united in marriage to William Orr Aug. 29, 1848. They removed to Adair county, Mo. in 1856 where they have since resided. She is the first of her family to pass on to the Great Beyond. Her husband and children all survive her.

Mrs. Orr made a profession of religion at a revival held in the old court house in 1860, and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Troy Mills. Afterwards when the congregation was disbanded, her membership was transferred to the Cumberland Presbyterian church of Kirksville.

Mrs. Orr was a most excellant [sic] Christian woman, greatly beloved and esteemed by all who knew her. Having lived in this county more than half a century, she was known to all the old settlers as a high-type of Christian womanhood, and as a friend and neighbor who was loyal and true. For a number of years, she had been in poor health and for the last two years confined to her bed. Death to her was great gain. She has but gone from the torment of clay to the Eternal home in the Father's house.

The funeral was conducted from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Etta Beatty, with whom she had lived for a number of years, by Rev. W.C. Templeton, pastor of the Presbyterian church assisted by Rev. G.W. . . [missing]
