Daughter of Ora M. and Lucille Diane Forrest Riddle
KIRKSVILLE GIRL KILLED IN EAST
Joan Riddle, Her Fiance, and Third Man Die in Street Car-Auto Collision
Pittsburgh, Sept. 30. (UP)—Three persons, all deaf-mutes, were killed early today in a collision between their automobile and a streetcar. Two passengers aboard the streetcar were injured slightly.
Those killed were identified as Arnold Wilson, 24, the driver, of Pittsburgh; Joan Riddle, 23, his fiancee, Kirksville, Mo.; and Clarence Fineran, Whiting, Ind., and Sioux City, Ia.
They worked as a sales crew and recently had returned from the Midwest. Their car bore Missouri license plates.
Two street car passengers, Frank Irwin, 37, and Pauline Cherlidenka, 28, both of Pittsburgh, were treated for minor injuries at Shadyside hospital and released.
Pittsburgh Railways officials said the street car had stopped at a corner to pick up a passenger when the automobile, approaching at high speed, hit the trolley and wedged underneath.
Police were forced to pry the automobile from beneath the street car before any of the three victims could be removed.
------------
W.A. Forrest, 1031 North Olive Street, grandfather of Joan Riddle, said this afternoon that they had not received any word from Pittsburgh authorities and did not know what arrangements would be made for shipping the body back to Kirksville.
Mr. Forrest said that Joan was 21 years old, instead of 23, as stated in the item, and that she and Arnold Wilson left Kirksville about a month ago to visit his mother in Pittsburgh. En route they were selling cards and first aid kits. They were to have been married soon in Pittsburgh.
Joan was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orie Riddle. Her mother was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Forrest. The mother died nine years ago and since that time, Joan had considered the W.A. Forrest home as her home, although she spent most of her time between the ages of 6 and 18 in the State School for the Deaf at Fulton. Her father is living in California. A sister, Mrs. Rose McCoy, lives in Kansas City.
