Claud ("Pete") Sorrell

A well-known Kirksville resident, Claude ("Pete") Sorrell, 84, of 1605 North Green passed away at 4:50 Thursday afternoon (May 19, 1983) in Grim-Smith Hospital where he had been a patient only one day.

The son of James Nelson and Nancy Catherine Peters Sorrell, he was born in Chariton, Iowa on March 25, 1899. On May 14, 1938 in the state of Kentucky, he married Ramah Ruth Scott who survives. Also surviving are one son, Richard Lee Sorrell of Covington, Georgia; one daughter, Claudine Hoffman of Mesa, Arizona; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Cleona Provasco of Chariton, Iowa and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mr. Sorrell moved from Iowa to Kirksville in 1932. He owned and operated an auto salvage yard for many years. During the past few years he owned a sign shop on North Green Street.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon (May 22, 1983) in the chapel of Foster-Fohn Memorial Home. The Rev. Walter Simpson and Dewayne Wellborn will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Dianthe Cable, organist. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.
