Hazel Pauline Watson, 88, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Thursday morning (September 10, 1998) at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The daughter of Thomas L. and Grace (Slover) Scriven she was born June 21, 1910 in Youngstown, Missouri.

On May 21, 1994 [sic] she was united in marriage to Clem Miller who preceded her in death on November 13, 1960.

On January 9, 1964 she married Melvin Watson who preceded her in death on March 19, 1991.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Arther, Leslie and Harold Scriven and four sisters, Oleva Payton, Emma Prunty, Ruby Latchaw and Betty Mundt.

Surviving are one step-son, Dale Watson and wife Virginia of Kirksville, Missouri; one step-daughter, Helen McCallister of Jackson, Missouri; three step-grandchildren, Leon Watson of Greentop, Missouri, Carl Watson of Story City, Iowa and Bryan Watson of Valdosta, Georgia; four step-great-grandchildren, Zane, Shannon, McKenzie and Rebecca Watson, three nephews, Alan Payton and Hollis Scriven both of Davenport, Iowa and Leslie Scriven of Springfield, Missouri and nine nieces, Sharon Butcher of Columbia, Missouri, Joan Searle of LaBelle, Missouri, Elizabeth Albertson of Naperville, Illinois, Anita Watkins of Burlington, Iowa, Susan Barrick of Lubbock, Texas, Sandra Bateman of Davenport, Iowa, Joan Byrd of Brookfield, Missouri, Nancy Scriven of Kirksville, Missouri and Jeannie Childress of Kirksville, Missouri.

Hazel was a life-long resident of Adair County and received her education in the Kirksville rural schools, Kirksville High School and the Chillicothe Business College. She was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for National Utilities and later as a bookkeeper for Adair Lumber Company in Kirksville.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kirksville and had attended the Hamilton Street Baptist Church in Kirksville.

Hazel enjoyed raising flowers and gardening.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Saturday (September 12, 1998) at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Reverend Darrell Draper will officiate the service. Music will be provided by Dianthe Cable, organist and Harold Moyer, soloist. The music selections will be "In the Sweet By & By" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Burial will be held at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Carl Watson, Bryan Watson, Gary Butcher, Duane Searle, Virgil Steele, James Kelly, David Kelly and Levi Kelly.

Visitation is in progress at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville and the family will receive friends from six to eight o'clock this evening in the chapel of the Travis-Noe Funeral Home, 1008 Potter Avenue, Kirksville, Missouri 665-1300.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Hazel Watson may be made to the Hamilton Street Baptist Church. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO, 63501.
