David Devoss Scott was born Oct. 13, 1848 in Clinton Co., Indiana to Philip and Ann (Tevis) Scott, the 4th of seven children. The family moved to Henry Co. Iowa in 1857. David met a red haired Quaker girl named Rachel Melinda Osborn and married her on Nov. 10, 1867. They had nine children – Philip, Vinette Mitten, Elnora Fenn, William, Seleacha Luzadder, Harlan, Pearl, Nina Livix and Earl. In the mid-1870s they moved to Knox Co., Missouri. There Rachel died in 1897. David than married Rettie (Dabney) Baldwin. David died Apr. 4, 1917 in Brashear, Adair Co., Missouri.
