JOHN P. POPE, PIONEER, DIES AT AGE OF 61

Funeral of Lifelong County Resident 1:30 p.m. Sunday

John Pruner Pope, 93, died Friday morning at the home of his son, Ernest Pope, near No. 11 mine south of Novinger.

Funeral services will be held at the Dee Riley Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock., conducted by Rev. T. W. Jolly, pastor of the First Christian Church. Interment will be in the Pinkerton Cemetery.

Mr. Pope was the son of Joseph and Jane (Pinkerton) Pope and was born in Adair County, Apr 5, 1857. He married to Cena Wimber Jan 10, 1888, in Adair County and to this marriage five children were born.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Barney and Ernest Pope, both of Novinger, two daughters, Mrs. William (Eileen) Arbuckle, Niles, Mich., and Mrs. Carmie (Fieta) Niece, Sperry; nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

The body will lie in state at the Dee Riley Funeral Home. Bearers will be: Wayne Niece, Wendall Niece, Verlan Niece, Calvin Pope, William Pope, and Murl Pope.

MRS. POPE DEAD

Mrs. Cena Pope, 93, wife of John Pope, died Thursday at the family home near Youngstown. She had been ill for several months.

Mrs. Pope was one of the oldest settlers in the west and of the County having lived here nearly all her life.

She leaves her husband, two daughters, Fleta and Ilene Pope, and two sons, Barney and Ernest, all of near Youngstown. There also are four brothers, Lon Wimber of Kirksville; James Wimber, of Utah; Oscar Wimber of Jamesport, and Cora Wimber of Oklahoma.

The funeral was held from the home Friday, conducted by Rev. Thomas. Burial was in Pinkerton Cemetery.

The Express reports that Miss Fleta Pope, a daughter, was taken
to the Grim hospital Thursday for an operation.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of all.
